DDC reached this milestone as births to unmarried mothers continues to rise. According to the latest Center for Disease Control and Prevention National Vital Statistics Report, births to unmarried mothers rose from 10.7 percent in 1970 to 39.7 percent in 2007, and about six in seven births to teenagers were non-marital. In most situations, establishing the biological father is essential.
