What is a non-invasive prenatal paternity test?
A non-invasive prenatal paternity test determines who the father is before the baby is born. The baby's DNA profile is drawn from fetal cells naturally present in the mother's blood sample and compared against a DNA profile from the potential father, collected via a simple cheek swab. If a cheek swab isn't available, we can also process alternative samples, including fingernail clippings, cigarette butts, or ear swabs. A report is then generated to confirm whether the tested man is the biological father.
How does the NIPP test work?
Early in pregnancy, small amounts of fetal DNA circulate in the mother's bloodstream. Using highly sensitive equipment, DDC separates the fetal DNA from the mother's own DNA to create a profile for the baby. That profile is then compared against the potential father's DNA to determine paternity with 99.9% confidence.
Is the Certainty™ test result court-admissible?
It can be. If you choose the Legal Test option, DNA collection follows a strict chain-of-custody process with witnessed sample collection, making results admissible in court for matters such as child custody or child support. If the potential father's sample is collected at home without witnessing, the results cannot be used in court because the identity can't be independently verified.
How are DNA samples collected, and what types can be used?
The mother provides a blood sample. For the potential father, a standard cheek swab is collected at an approved collection site (for legal cases) or at home (for non-legal cases). For non-legal cases, we can also process alternative sample types, including fingernail or toenail clippings, ear swabs, cigarette butts, toothbrushes, mucus, saliva, or semen. Non-standard samples require a viability test first to confirm sufficient DNA is present. Samples for non-legal cases can also be submitted anonymously.
Are there any restrictions for testing during pregnancy?
- A woman must be at least 7 weeks pregnant.
- Prenatal paternity testing cannot be performed for women expecting twins or multiples.
- We are also unable to test two potential fathers who share a close biological relationship, such as brothers.

Does the test also reveal the baby's sex?
Yes. Because we're already analyzing fetal DNA, we can include the baby's sex on your report at no additional charge, if you'd like to know.
Will a previous pregnancy affect my results?
No. A prior pregnancy will not affect the outcome of a non-invasive prenatal paternity test.
What does "over 99.9% accurate" mean? Could my result be wrong?
A result of "Probability of Paternity: >99.9%" means the tested man's DNA is an extremely strong match to the baby's. A result of "0%" means he is excluded as the biological father. No paternity test can be 100% accurate because it's statistically possible for two unrelated men to share nearly identical DNA at the tested markers. That said, every DDC sample is processed twice by independent teams, and all results are reviewed by in-house PhD. DNA experts before release.
How much does non-invasive prenatal paternity testing cost?

Can the potential father refuse to participate?
For a private, non-legal test, participation is voluntary. If a direct cheek swab isn't possible, non-legal testing can be completed using an alternative DNA sample, and samples can be submitted anonymously. For court-ordered testing, a judge can compel participation, and refusal may be weighed against the refusing party. Is this test safe for my baby?
Yes. Non-invasive prenatal paternity testing requires only a standard blood draw from the mother's arm. Unlike older prenatal procedures such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS), there is no insertion of needles into the uterus and no risk to the pregnancy. The fetal DNA is already present in the mother's bloodstream naturally, so no contact with the baby is needed.
